The warning about the schemes of scammers involving 'changing the intercom code
Scammers are trying to deceive people by informing them over the phone about an alleged change to the intercom code.
This was reported on Saturday, July 19, by Artem Sheikin, deputy chair of the Council for the Development of the Digital Economy under the Federation Council. He noted an increase in the number of calls from phone scammers in the first half of 2025."On this wave, as a matter of genre, criminals have developed a new tactic.
Under the guise of changing the intercom code, they install malicious applications on the victim's device and convince them to transfer their savings to 'safe accounts', says Artem. At the beginning of the conversation, the stranger introduces themselves as an employee of the service organization, after which the victim is asked to confirm their identity.
They are told they need to dictate a code from an SMS that arrives on their phone. The SMS is used for logging into online banking. If the person hangs up, they receive callbacks from other scammers, posing as law enforcement officers and suggesting they install some banking application and tap their card at the bank terminal.
Suppose a citizen follows the lead of the criminals. In that case, they receive a virtual copy of the card and withdraw all the money from the account, concluded Artem Sheikin. He reported earlier in July that criminals are implementing a new scheme of fraud against Russians, forcing them to leave cash in mailboxes. They are told that this allegedly protects their savings.
